Managing Editor for Publishers
We have managed publications for some of the world’s largest scholarly scientific publishers since 2005, from soliciting manuscripts to publishing the final version of record, in digital and print editions. This work includes providing initial evaluation and decision on incoming manuscripts; overseeing peer review; managing open calls for commentary; reviewing all submissions for content, style, and form; communicating on behalf of editors; guiding authors and copyright holders on the legal issues of copyrights, permissions, and licensing; creating production timelines for multiple groups and projects; coordinating with production teams; creating reports; and working with marketing and production teams to provide high-quality content for various platforms. We have extensive experience in ScholarOne, EditorialManager, and SilverChair systems.
Production Manager for Publishers
Since 1994, we have overseen the production aspects of scholarly journals, scientific periodicals, and art magazines. We work with teams to manage the planning and execution their publications. We create and manage production schedules; copyedit and proofread articles and ads; preflight editorial and advertising content, often improving files, guiding others, or recreating content; design and typeset editorial and advertising content, or direct the typesetter; create pagination of editorial and advertising content to conform to design and production specifications; and communicate closely with editors, authors, advertisers, authors’ agents, typesetters, printers, publishers, advertising agencies, and readers. We use InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
Production Artist with Expertise in Flexible Packaging and Vector-Based Art
We have extensive knowledge and experience in pre-press, production art, vector-based graphics, printing, flexography, rotogravure printing, electronic file setup, dieline/template creation, quality control, color management, proofing, inks, substrates (poly, corrugated, and paper), and statistical process control. If you give us a file, we can resize it, revise it, recreate it, make additional versions, fix it, improve it, and prepare it to industry standards for hand-off to third parties, such as printers, publishers, or internal clients. Meridian Production’s owner, Gennifer Levey, has a background in managing pre-press departments of printing plants; overseeing and working in the marketing, advertising, and graphics departments of an advertising company; and managing the design and production of the packaging lines of Fortune 100 companies, as well as smaller companies.
Graphic Design and Photography
Creating functional, pleasing, conservative design, with a scientific or scholarly sensibility, is our specialty. We also focus on food and product packaging for flexible and corrugated substrates, as well as fine arts and poetry books. Additionally, we do html and css coding for the webpages and marketing email blasts of scholarly publications.
Customer Service
All of the work Meridian Production does requires expertise in handling potentially delicate and challenging situations. We interact with clients in ways unique to each project. Sometimes we take the lead; sometimes we follow direction. We communicate at every step to understand our clients’ needs and what is required to succeed. Meridian Production has been a member of the Better Business Bureau since 2011 with no complaints and an A+ rating.
